Sicily

Climbing up to the top of a volcanic hill with in Mt.. Etna.
We departed Catania Sicily on May 22, 2019 returning home. Just a few days later Mt. Etna erupted on May 30, 2019 spewing out ash and lava.
Made it to the top and was it windy too in this area. .

The view was spectacular from the plateau that we had climbed up on.

This is the volcanic hill that we had just climbed u on to see out across the landscape.

Visit to the World War II Museum in Catania. This is a must see too. Very interesting this museum.
In my best translation Italian to English ..." Nothing is lost with Peace.  Everything will be lost with War".
The museum is dedicated to the Allied landing on the Southern coast of Sicily.
This is a square in Catania prior to the bombing and occupation for 39 days.

The Allied invasion of Sicily, code named Operation Husky, was a major campaign of World War II, in which the Allies took the island of Sicily from the Axis powers, the Kingdom of Italy and Nazi Germany. It began with a large amphibious and airborne operation, followed by a six-week land campaign, and initiated the Italian Campaign.
